Nashik is a city in the state of Maharashtra in Western India. It is a city of pilgrimage for many Hindus. Nashik it is believed that the name was derived after the incident in Ramayan when Lakshman (Sri Ram's brother)chopped off the nose of Surpanakha (Ravans sister).Nashik is 180 km from Mumbai (Bombay). There are frequent buses to Nasik from Dadar in Bombay. It takes 4 to 5 hours by road. If you are not around Dadar then you can take suburban railway (CR) to Kasara.

Once at Kasara, there are loads of connecting buses to Nashik and many other places along with ample number of taxis. (Kindly note there is no taxi service available in the night. You can get held up after reaching Kasara Railway Station till the time until the next morning). A train called Panchavati express also plies daily between Mumbai and Nashik. Word of caution, Nashik is on Central Railway line and Dadar Station is a sort of junction place for Central Railway and Western Railway, so make sure that you are at right side of the station.

Air Deccan, the country's low-cost airline started daily flights between Bombay and Nashik. It flies to Nasik Ozar airport from the Chatrapati Shivaji Domestic Airport. (Flights have been suspended due to very low traffic.)You can also use services of Sanver Travels for getting AC Cars for travel from Mumbai Airport to Nashik City / Shirdi.

A rented car is the best option to move around the city. There is also a Nashik Darshan bus every day which shows you around the important tourist attractions in Nashik otherwise regional public transport service is also quite nice. Get the ticket for Nasik Darshan bus a day in advance to avoid inconvenience. Alternately you can take cheap and good autorikshaws. Mumbai Nashik Air Conditioned Car Rental Services can also be used.

Muktidham and Bhaktidham,a marble temple complex honoring various Hindu Gods Panchvati,Shirdi, Trymbakeshwar, Vani, Anjaneri (real birth place of Lord Hanuman) ,Someshwar, Navshya Ganpati this ganpati temple is full-fills the desire of devotee if they owe to him are the popular tourist attraction. A very beautiful Shri Icchamani Ganesh Temple is at Upnagar Near Nasik Road. This Ganesh is well known for full-filling the desires.

The city Railway station is located in Nasik road which is one of the important junction in Maharashtra. The famous Infant Jesus Shrine is located here. Nashik Road is a fast developing city suburb of Nashik and has many hotels and restaurants, educational institutions (St. Xavier's, St. Philomena's, Purushottam English School, Progressive, R.J.C. Bytco Girls School, Kothari Kanya, Jairambhai, K.J. Mehta,K.N.Kela etc.), hospitals and financial institutions (Business Bank, The Nasik Road Deolali Vyapari Sahakari Bank Ltd.,ICICI Bank etc.) catering to the growing educational and financial needs of the population.

Dattamandir, Andhashala, Gandharvanagari, Shikhrewadi, Jailroad, Gaykhe mala, Jai Bhavani road, Upanagar, old town Nashik which includes panchavati karanja, raviwar karanja, ganeshwadi, dwarka, bhadrakali, ghadge Nagar are major residential areas.

The Mubai Agra highway(NH3), Nashik-Pune highway (NH 50),Peth Road,Wani road, the Bhagur to Nashik road (Lam road), Jail Road are some of the major roads in the city, alongside the residential and commercial neighbourhoods. The first and only road flyover of the city (named Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar flyover) is in Nashik Road over the NH 50 and has helped reduce the traffic congestion in peak hours in the area.
